Senate Ceremony 2010

I'm getting better at updating people on the things that I'm doing.  So, I wanted to let you know that I'll be in DC at a special ceremony on April 15th at the U.S. Senate.  The U.S. Senate will pay tribute to Ida B. Wells at the Russell Senate Building by naming a restored room after her. Specifically, it is the room where a number of hearings on lynching took place.  This is occurring at the suggestion of Senator Mary Landrieu of Lousiana because the room had been the site of Congressional hearings on lynchings and anti-lynching laws.

I met Senator Landrieu when I spoke at the press conference in 2005 when the U.S. Senate issued a formal apology for never passing any anti-lynching legislation (a bill made it through the house 3 times from 1920 - 1940, but the Senate never passed it).  Senator Landrieu was one of the Senators who initiated the Resolution; I greatly thank her for that!

You can go to my other site at http://www.danduster.net/uslynchingapology.html to see the whole apology AND there is a list of the Senators who did & did not sign as well.

I don't this event is open to the public, but just wanted you to know that Ida B. Wells is being honored by our government.   I'll post any pix and other details of the event on Friday.

Thank you and I hope that you are doing well and enjoying life!
